Our Vision of green electroplating
In galvanic surface finishing, functional layers with a thickness of just a few μm are applied to the base material of a workpiece. Thanks to the properties of the coating, the components become more durable, more efficient, more break-resistant and gain better gliding abilities – in short: the galvanic surface coating saves resources. According to the Federal Environment Agency, economists estimate that galvanic surface finishing in Germany alone prevents around EUR 150 billion in corrosion and wear damage each year (Source: Federal Environment Agency/Umweltbundesamt).
We assume responsibility for using chemicals and energy required for the coating process in the most environmentally friendly and resource-saving way possible. Our certified environmental management system according to ISO 14001 is the basis of the continuous process of improvement of our environmental performance. In addition, we aim to continuously increase our energy efficiency with our certified energy management system according to ISO 50001 (view all certificates). Despite our energy-intensive processes, we have been using 100% green electricity since 2008. Starting in 2021, we have been offsetting the CO2 emissions of our truck transportation and gas consumption at Plant II via carbon offset projects. We actively pursue the deliberate reduction and substitution of hazardous substances, such as lead-free electroless nickel electrolytes and the maximum possible replacement of the nitro cleaner with bio-cycle cleaners. With the qualified voluntary environmental activities, Betz-Chrom participates in the Environment + Climate Pact Bavaria (Umwelt + Klimapakt Bayern).
Our logo highlights our green and sustainable awareness: the rhino symbolizes our core competence with its armored, hard and yet finely structured skin – the surface finishing of complicated geometries. In accordance with this, we have taken on the sponsorship for the rhinoceros Nikolaus in Munich’s Hellabrunn Zoo.
Taking small steps forward
We also want to raise awareness of sustainability with small campaigns. Project examples are: Sponsorship for a flowering field, insect- and bird-friendly design of the company premises, donation of 900 trees as part of the initiative Plant-for-the-Planet etc.
We are particularly happy about our bee colonies, which are looked after by our production manager and beekeeper in Maisach. Bees from Betz-Chrom have of course a chromium plated sting…
United for a strong society
We see ourselves as an integral part of society. We are employers, partners for our customers and suppliers and a neighbor with close ties to the area. As a company, we have the opportunity to help shape our society and we would like to actively use this opportunity.
We are very happy to train young people to become qualified professionals. The dual training system in Germany is valued worldwide and we see vocational education as the cornerstone for a self-determined and meaningful future.
At our company people from around 14 different nations work hand in hand. True to the motto “Vielfalt statt Einfalt” (translating to “Diversity instead of simplicity”), integration is an integral part of our corporate culture. We are also publicly campaigning for a diverse community. Betz-Chrom is a member of the NETZWERK “Unternehmen integrieren Flüchtlinge” and would like to motivate other companies to give refugees a fair chance in the German labor market, with the help of according publications in the press.
At the same time, we feel connected to our “Heimat” (meaning where we come from and where we feel at home) and therefore also support social and cultural institutions in our neighborhood. With annual donations, we currently support the Malteser outpatient hospice service, the voluntary fire brigade Gräfelfing, the Museum Fünf Kontinente in Munich and the Munich Hellabrunn Zoo.
